When children experience loss, sadness, anger, or confusion, their feelings can be overwhelming. It can be hard for them to stay focused, contain their energy, and control their emotions. Their experiences may be too hard to talk about at first, so we use art, play, and breathing exercises to help kids learn ways to work through tough situations. Some of the situations that may affect kids in these ways are changes in their family, loss of a family member or friend, developmental difficulties, or attention problems.
In the below video, "Just Breathe," kids describe for themselves what they've learned about how to deal with the emotions that go along with some of these challenging life circumstances.
