This course is appropriate for health care professionals as well as the general public. Health care professionals will be able to incorporate the tools and practices offered in this program in ways beneficial to clients or patients. For a $50 additional fee, Continuing Education credit may be available for those who complete the entire course. No partial or per class credit will be offered. You must arrive within 15 minutes of the beginning of each class for your attendance to be counted, and stay until the end. Participants will be required to sign in to every class. See below for more information. CE credit is awarded for instructional time only and does not include extended silent sitting or walking meditation, meals, etc. CE credits for psychologists are provided by the Spiritual Competency Resource Center (SCRC) which is co-sponsoring this program. The Spiritual Competency Resource Center is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. The Spiritual Competency Resource Center maintains responsibility for this program and its content. The California Board of Behavioral Sciences accepts CE credits for LCSW, LPCC, LEP, and LMFT license renewal for programs offered by approved sponsors of CE by the American Psychological Association. LCSWs, MFTs, and other mental health professionals from states other than California need to check with their state licensing board as to whether or not they accept programs offered by approved sponsors of CE by the American Psychological Association. SCRC is approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing (BRN Provider CEP16887) for licensed nurses in California. 6-Week INTRODUCTION to Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction: Course Objectives
Learn the fundamentals mindfulness and loving-kindness practices. Learn to incorporate mindfulness into your personal and professional life. Gain an overview of research showing health benefits associated with mindfulness and self-compassion practices. Acquire resources for continuation of training and practice of learned skills.
8-Week MBSR: Course Objectives
Learning Objectives:
Describe fundamentals of mindfulness as it relates to stress reduction, coping with pain and illness, and enhancing relationships and well-being.
Explain the physiological expression of habitual, reactive behavior patterns, and their impact on physical, mental, and emotional states.
Describe the physical, mental and emotional impact of mindfulness practice on reducing stress symptoms, as measured qualitatively and by fmri studies over a growing body of research.
Distinguish between mindfulness practices and relaxation techniques; differentiate between the intentions and effects of these different techniques for managing stress.
Describe recent research demonstrating the connection between health, illness, chronic pain, and stress management.
Incorporate mindfulness to enhance relationships and deal more effectively with stressful circumstances, in both personal and professional life.
Implement brief mindfulness practices with patients and families experiencing ongoing stressors, including chronic illness, anxiety, depression, and substance recovery.
Explain how formal and informal mindfulness practices, as well as gentle movement such as yoga, can reduce physical and emotional discomfort stemming from problems related to stress or chronic health problems
Integrate mindful communication skills into psychotherapy practice.
Integrate daily mindfulness practice skills, including yoga and walking meditation, into a sustainable personal practice.
Introduce Loving Kindness as a relationship-enhancing practice.
